3-1-1 call service coming

The City of Cranbrook is moving toward a 3-1-1 call service.

Cranbrook CAO David Kim

City chief administrative officer David Kim March 20 told council testing will begin May 2 and if all good, the 3-1-1 call service will become operational by June 2.

This means residents can call city hall by dialing 3-1-1 and be directed to a relevant department for assistance.

“This will be a great move for customer service,” Kim said, noting that “as part of the process, the city has requested approval from impacted areas within the city’s exchange, including Brisco, Fort Steele, JimSmith Lake and Wycliffe through a request for approval by the Regional District of East Kootenay board.”

Noting its location in the north end of the Columbia Valley, Coun. Ron Popoff asked why Brisco was included in the service, though it made sense for the other three locales.

In short, someone in Brisco can dial 3-1-1 and they will get through to Cranbrook City Hall.

“Does this make sense to council?” He asked.

Acting Mayor Wes Graham suggested if it “becomes a problem we can look into it down the road.”
