Area G Volunteer of the Year recognized
Michael Hutchinson was officially recognized as the 2018 Electoral Area G Volunteer of the Year at a Town Hall Meeting last night.
Hutchinson and his wife Karel own Pips Country Store in Edgewater and are both known for their kindness and cheerful dispositions.
“Michael is always willing to help, no matter what time of day. He goes above and beyond to help anyone in need,” said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area G Director Gerry Wilkie.
One of the nominators spoke to Hutchinson’s kindness sharing examples of seeing him give gas and food to those down on their luck or having a hard time.
“In our small, tight knit community we are lucky to have someone like Michael, who not only demonstrates exemplary kindness and generosity, but who gives tirelessly in so many ways to help our community,” added Wilkie.
Hutchinson uses his own equipment and fuel to keep the Edgewater Community Hall clear of ice and snow; is the head of the building committee for the Edgewater Recreation Society; carries out routine maintenance of the Edgewater Hall; and, has been instrumental in the rebuilding of Frank’s Rink.
In addition, he has served for five years as a trustee on the Vermillion Irrigation District.
Hutchinson was presented with a small gift during the Volunteer of the Year ceremony, which was held in conjunction with the Area G Town Hall Meeting in Edgewater.
Following the Volunteer of the Year portion of the evening, Area G Director Wilkie provided a report on some of the activities and programs he has been involved in recently.
