Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. L-P. Gendron-Fafard

This past week, May 14 through to May 20, Columbia Valley RCMP officers responded to 110 calls for service. Here are a few examples of the files that were handled by our officers this week.

Theft of welding equipment

On May 15, we received a report of stolen welding equipment from a trailer on a property in Invermere. The items were described as a blue Lincoln 110v welder, a grey plasma cutter, a blue CO2 bottle of containing gas for welding and a number of other miscellaneous items. For any information regarding leading to the recovery of this property, please contact our office referring to file number 2018-1012.

Hit and run to parked vehicle

On May 15, Columbia Valley RCMP was requested to assist in an investigation of a hit and run to a parked vehicle in the parking lot of No Frills. The offending vehicle damaged the passenger side of the Grey GMC Acadia without leaving any contact information. For any information regarding this collision, please contact our office referring to file number 2018-1014.

Impaired driver near Kinsmen Beach

In the early hours of Friday, May 18, Columbia Valley RCMP members were on patrol looking for a male reported to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The male was located in his vehicle in the Kinsmen Beach parking lot in Invermere.

During the investigation the officers built further ground to believe that the driver had consumed liquor and later obtained two separate samples of his breath using an Approved Screening Device. Both samples registered as ‘fail.’ Based on the results, the male was issued an Immediate Road Prohibition of 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The male was subsequently arrested for ‘Causing a Disturbance’ based on his action with his officer. When driven home the parents of the 19-year-old male refused to care for him and the officer provided him with a stay in our RCMP cells for the night until he was sober.

Impaired driver on Westside Road

On May 19, a Columbia Valley RCMP officer was conducting patrols on Westside Road near Fairmont Hot Springs. After noticing some illegal blue lights on the front bumper of a vehicle, the officer conducted a traffic stop. The officer quickly began an investigation into the sobriety of the driver and obtained two separate samples of his breath using an Approved Screening Device. Both samples registered as ‘fail.’ Based on the results, the male was issued an Immediate Road Prohibition of 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Intoxicated male walking through the mill in Radium

In the early morning of May 19, an officer responded to a report of an intoxicated male walking through the Canfor Mill’s lumber yard in Radium Hot Springs. The male had no shoes on, only remembered his name and the city he lived in. After some clever investigation from our officer, the male was re-united with his spouse at a resort nearby. Thankfully for him his spouse was willing to care for him until he sobered up.
