Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Sgt. Darren Kakuno

This past week, March 8 through March 14, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 57 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

Mountain bike stolen from Invermere property

On Monday, March 8 a resident on 10th Avenue in Invermere reported the theft of a bicycle which was taken from the property sometime overnight. The bicycle is described as a khaki green Kona Stinky full suspension downhill mountain bike.

Impaired driver taken from road

On Wednesday, March 10 at about 5 p.m., an officer stopped the driver of a Honda Accord for disobeying a traffic light at the intersection of 4th Street and Laurier Street in Invermere. The officer conducted a Mandatory Alcohol Screening with the driver. The driver complied with a roadside breath demand and blew two “fails.” As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30-days.

Driver injured in early morning crash with transport truck near Fairmont

On Thursday, March 11 at about 2 a.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 93/95 near Fairmont Hot Springs. The driver of a Ford Fiesta was northbound on the highway and struck a southbound commercial transport truck. The driver of the Ford Fiesta was transported to the Invermere and District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the commercial transport truck was uninjured. The investigation is ongoing to determine if there were contributing factors that led to the collision.
