Look Outside. Click. Share. Connect.

Look Outside. Click. Share. Connect. That’s the nature of Wildsight’s new initiative, Look Outside, to be launched at a public event on Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at the CPR Lodge by Kinsmen Park, Invermere.

LookOutside“Throughout 2014 and into the winter season, Look Outside will encourage people to share freshly-taken photographs of their experience in the Purcell region. We are celebrating how we as humans connect with the wild, from backcountry to backyard,” said Wildsight Invermere Branch coordinator, Andrea Smillie.

There are two ways to participate: the photo contest and social sharing. You can submit photos to www.WildLookOutside.com, vying for prizes as well as possible inclusion in the Look Outside multi-media community tour. Or you can submit photos through social media, tagged #WildLookOutside.

Categories include Wander, Wonder, Woods, Water, Wild, Mighty, Little and, of course, Mighty Little.

“Whether it’s Shangri-La, Lake of the Hanging Glacier, Thunderwater Lake, Mt. Brewer, the Columbia Wetlands or countless other cherished places, we live in a beautiful and varied landscape. Look Outside celebrates our home place, and we invite local people and visitors alike to help us showcase the Purcell region,” added Juri Peepre, Wildsight regional board chair and one of the project organizers.

Look Outside extends a special invitation to the many talented photographers through the Kootenay region.

“This contest will provide the impetus for all the talented amateurs and pros in the region to explore new horizons and revisit favourite haunts in the Purcells, ” said Pat Morrow, award-winning local photographer and mountaineer who will help coordinate the project. “We are also interested in edited video clips that tell a short story, or that capture a singular moment in time.”

The Look Outside evening will be a great chance to learn more about the project, catch up with friends and hatch ideas for summer outings. Light appetizers will be provided and a cash bar will be available.
