Person-caused fire contained near Panorama

At 4:30 p.m. Sept. 8 there was a report of a wildfire approximately 2.5 km west of Panorama Mountain Resort along the Placer Forest Service Road.

A joint effort of Panorama Fire Rescue, Invermere/Windermere Fire Departments along with BC Wildfire Service were immediately dispatched into the area and were supported by two helicopters.

Through the efforts of local resources and dedicated personnel the fire was contained and estimated at about one hectare. BC Wildfire personnel have placed a hose line all around the perimeter of the fire area and will be back on scene Saturday morning with a team to ensure the area is extinguished.

At the time of this statement there is no immediate threat from this wildfire to the community of Panorama.

This morning (Sept. 9) the BCWS reports the fire, believed to be person-caused, remains active and is now 1.25 ha. The fire is the only new blaze started in the region since yesterday.
