CP Rail moving 73 jobs to Sparwood

CP Rail is creating a new crew base in Sparwood and as a result 73 locomotive engineers and conductors are being relocated from the Cranbrook/Fort Steele area to the Elk Valley.

The relocation is currently planned to take effect early May, confirmed Salem Woodrow of CPR’s Public Affairs & Communications department.

“All employees affected by this move are being offered relocation assistance. There is no net job reduction, and all workers will be able to exercise their seniority at the Sparwood terminal,” Woodrow told e-KNOW.

Once the move is complete, 55 engineer and conductor positions will remain in the Cranbrook/Fort Steele area.

“CP is making this move because we must adjust to changing business conditions so as to efficiently serve our customers. We are committed to dealing fairly with our employees who are affected by this relocation,” Woodrow said.
