Adopt an Athlete aims to help Wild win B.C. titles

Mount Baker Secondary School (MBSS) Wild Senior Boys Volleyball Team is the top ranked side out of 15 in AAA Senior Boys Volleyball as they travel to compete in the Big Kahuna BC Volleyball Championships at the Langley Event Centre between November 29 and December 2.

The MBSS Wild Seniors Girls Volleyball Team is also taking part in an Adopt an Athlete program.

The Wild has never won the provincials, but have gotten close – winning silver in 2001 and 2009.

The team is currently fundraising to be able to afford the trip to the provincials and is taking a unique approach with Adopt an Athlete.

People can help sponsor a student by “adopting” them – by donation, or for $50 they will receive a signed photograph and thank you card with player stats and the link to watch them live in Langley.

“The school is proud of them and we are hoping when they realize, the community will be too. The kids are trying to raise some of the $400 per person cost (which includes school bus, hotel, and tournament fees) of travelling across the province to play at the end of the month with an “Adopt an Athlete” fundraiser, said MBSS vice-principal Kaley Wasylowich.

“They are a great group of kids, and any help would be greatly appreciated,” she said.

The MBSS Wild Seniors Girls Volleyball Team is also taking part in an Adopt an Athlete program to help fund their trip to provincials, too.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can stop by the school office, or call Kaley Wasylowich at Mount Baker at 250-426-5241 – extension 511.
