Baker junior Wild win EK crown

By Corey Baker

The Mount Baker Junior Girls Wild basketball team this past weekend captured the East Kootenay Championship, fighting past three committed opponents.

Mount Baker Wild vs Elkford Comets

With a great start to the tournament the girls came out strong, holding their opposition to only three points in the first three quarters and winning the first game.

Wild vs Creston

The Baker girls came out slow in the first half, only up by 12. The second half was a different story with points coming from all girls, working their strong full court press on defense, taking over the game and winning.

Wild vs Parkland Raiders

The Baker girls met the Raiders in finals, so they knew they were in for a game. The first half was slow with both sides getting into foul trouble early, and Baker found themselves up by only three as both sides battled offensively and defensively. The second half saw the Baker girls regaining energy and points and by the end, they won the EK finals!

Next up for Junior Wild girls is a tournament in Calgary Feb. 24/25 and then onto Provincials Feb. 28 – March 5.
