BC Hydro community grant in action

Students at TM Roberts Elementary School in Cranbrook took part in a Get STEMulated program on Tuesday, January 31. Grade 3 and 4 students in Mike Eadie’s class learned about how animals survive during winter and put into practice their skills pretending to be ptarmigans in a series of activities led by Blue Lake Centre’s Nick Haberman and Shonna Murphy.

Through its Get STEMulated program, Blue Lake staff visits schools around the East Kootenay and conducts outdoor science, technology, engineering and math lessons for students from kindergarten to Grade 6. In 2016, Blue Lake received a $10,000 grant from BC Hydro to develop and carry out the program.

Applications are now open for BC Hydro’s community grants. Non-profits and community organizations can apply until March 31 at www.bchydro.com/grants.
