Bronze plaques stolen from Rotary Park

Thieves/vandals have stolen bronze plaques from Cranbrook’s Rotary Park.

City of Cranbrook staff working to set up for Canada Day festivities on Friday, July 1 discovered a number of bronze plaques missing from Rotary Park.

The most significant is the bronze plaque missing from the mural side of the Wall of Honour facing 10th Avenue South (pictured above), the city noted in a media release.

A second plaque commemorating those who lost their lives because of workplace accidents or health- related issues is also missing (pictured right).

A third plaque commemorating the official opening of BC Spirit Square in November 2008 is still in place but suffered damage while thieves tried to remove it (pictured below).

“We are extremely disappointed in the actions of those individuals responsible for these thefts ahead of Canada Day – a day intended to celebrate our amazing country with our community, our family and friends,” the city stated.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
