Connell Ridge wildfire expands to 150 ha

The BC Wildfire Service reported this afternoon it is responding to the Connell Ridge wildfire located approximately 18 kilometres south of Cranbrook and 16 km east of Moyie.

Suspected to be lightning-caused, the fire is now an estimated 150 hectares, up from the estimated 15 ha as reported earlier this morning (August 2).

“The fire is currently burning as a moderate to highly vigorous surface fire with a moderate to fast rate of spread. One unit crew, an initial attack crew and response officers are on scene, with a second unit crew scheduled to arrive later in the day,” BC Wildfire Service outlined on social media.

“Ground crews are being supported by helicopters moving resources. Airtankers and skimmers are providing support cooling the fire with retardant and water respectively.

“As skimmers are in the area, we ask recreational boaters or people using other watercraft to keep their boats well away from areas where aircraft are operating,” BC Wildfire Service added.
