Dycar entering long-awaited start-up phase

Dycar Pharmaceuticals Ltd. today celebrated the beginning of a long-awaited start up phase of operations for medical cannabis cultivation and distribution.

Company ownership, investors and city business and political leaders were on hand this afternoon (Feb. 16) for a sign unveiling for Dycar’s base of operations at 900 Industrial Road 1 in Cranbrook (pictured above).

“The process to get to this point has been long and challenging (dating back to 2013) but with us able to now move forward with construction it has been worth it. We have a talented team of professionals working with us through the construction process and the City of Cranbrook’s staff and council continue to provide excellent support and guidance. We look forward to commencing operations this summer and becoming a strong contributor of Cranbrook’s economy,” said company CEO and chair Dylen Wannop.

Dycar’s new facilities will be built-out in two phases with construction of the first phase commencing in March. The first phase will develop approximately 33,000 sq. ft. in the building for cultivation, processing, extraction, laboratories, offices, mechanical, security and packaging and shipping.

Construction and equipping of the first phase will have a capital cost of $7.1 million. The company anticipates receiving its license to cultivate in June and hopes to be operational by July, using state-of-the-art aeroponics in bio-secure chambers with LED lighting to grow our cannabis in its 114,000 square foot building.

The as-yet renovated building will also feature 3,230 square feet of lab space.

“We feel strongly that more research needs to be done with this product so that more people can benefit from it. In our analytical lab, as well as our research and development lab, we will be utilizing Perkin Elmer equipment allowing us to test for all the parameters laid out by Health Canada and much more. Our extraction lab will be using Supercritical CO2 Extractor along with a CO2 Chromatography and a distillation system allowing us to provide pure extractions,” the company explains on its website.

The building will also be outfitted with high tech security riggings and cameras.

Upon full build-out Dycar will have invested over $35 million in establishing its new facilities. The company anticipates employing up to 60 personnel for the first phase of operations and over 200 personnel at full build-out.

The company is planning a hiring fair in Cranbrook for April.
