East Kootenay Behaviour Intervention Program closed
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the closure of the East Kootenay Behaviour Intervention Program.
Well trained and dedicated staff have provided services to children diagnosed on the autism spectrum and their families throughout the East Kootenay since 2011.
The closure is due to a provincial funding model that does not work for a facility- based program such as ours. We are unable to cover our overhead costs and despite advocacy to the province it appears that the model will remain as is.
It is a parent driven program and it is our sincere hope that families that we serve will understand why we are making this decision.
As a large agency that oversees upwards of 15 plus programs/contracts, it is critical that we manage this situation on behalf of the whole agency and not allow one program to place us in financial jeopardy
Our Board of Directors is supporting this very difficult decision.
The closure of the program will take place June 28.
