Farmer’s Market kicks-off ninth season June 24
Lots to explore and enjoy at the first summer outdoor market of the year
The Cranbrook Farmer’s Market will host its first outdoor summer market on Saturday, June 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. next to in Rotary Park (10th Ave. S) in downtown Cranbrook.
“This year marks the 9th season of the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market and the first of 16 outdoor markets in 2017,” said Livia Lara, Market Manager. “On June 24, we will host more than 40 local vendors, which includes at least five new vendors, providing shoppers with an array of fresh veggies and fruits, treats and baking, crafts, jewelry, clothing, beauty items and more.”
Plus, catch a special performance by local singer songwriter Heather Gemmel, an ol’ time bluegrass/folk musician who rocks the claw hammer banjo and guitar.
The June 24 market will be followed by a special farmer’s market on July 1 (Canada Day) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Rotary Park location.
“It’s a very exciting year for the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market and we know our local food producers, small entrepreneurs and artisans have been busy preparing for the busy season and will be offering a great selection of locally-produced items throughout the summer,” said Tyler McNaughton, Cranbrook Farmer’s Market Society’s President. “Thanks to a recent $4,100 grant from the City of Cranbrook we will also be investing in our growth, operations, and our marketing strategy, so we expect to see some momentum happening this year that will enhance the market experience for both shoppers and vendors.”
Last year, more than 130 vendors participated in the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market over the summer and fall seasons. The market is a significant economic player in the local economy, injecting nearly $1 million annually into the area. The Cranbrook Farmers Market Society is a not-for-profit organization supporting local food, agriculture and craft in the East Kootenay. It was established with the mission to host a vibrant market event for local food growers, artisans and their customers.
