Firefighters secure hotel after fire call

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) rapidly responded to a possible fire at the Heritage Inn in Cranbrook this afternoon (June 24).

The hotel was emptied of staff and guests as firefighters searched for signs of fire, while RCMP and BC Ambulance stood by and controlled the scene between 3:30 and 4 p.m..

CFES Deputy Chief Scott Driver said the smell smoke prompting the 911 call may have come from a mechanical issue in the kitchen or have been weather related. The investigation continues.

Firefighters continued to conduct due diligence in the hotel after the all clear was given, shortly after firefighters arrived.
