Park-On-Us returns for 10th year

The United Way of Cranbrook and Kimberley is pleased to celebrate the 10th annual Park-On-Us Campaign. The success of this event is due to the generous support of city council and participating businesses. And there is still plenty of time for Cranbrook businesses to become involved.

“Park-on-Us features a unique win-win community event,” said Donna Brady Fields, executive director for the United Way of Cranbrook and Kimberley. ”Here is how it works – businesses and organizations purchase parking meters for $25 each. Our hopes are to have every business purchase at least one meter. United Way provides colorful signage which will be placed over your purchased parking meter/s on Park-On-Us day. The sign reads ‘Park on Us with United Way, Courtesy of the City of Cranbrook and Your Business Name.’ On Friday, September 14 citizens of Cranbrook and visitors to our city will park downtown, completely free of charge. This campaign has the potential to raise over $10,000 for our community! Last year 277 meters were sold down from the 294 sold in 2010. This year the goal is to sell 300 meters, combined with other amounts raised on Park-on-Us Day we hope to hit $8,500. We can do it with your help!

“Citizens and visitors appreciate this campaign every year, as it provides a sense of community spirit and a unique welcome to our community,” Brady Fields said. “Tourists have voiced their astonishment, at free parking! No other community does this, they say! This is a great way for you to support the United Way, which enhances your community image. From a business perspective, the exposure is far greater than a small font mention in a thank you advertisement. It can be your token of customer appreciation by providing free parking for your customers and visitors.”

In order to make certain that you get the meters directly in front of your business or your preferred area downtown, please make your commitment to the United Way as soon as possible.

“We encourage businesses to hold BBQs, sidewalk sales, fun activities, with a portion of the proceeds to United Way. Let’s have some fun on Park-On-Us” day! It’s a great day for customer appreciation!” Brady Fields stated.

What to do if after your canvasser leaves and you want more meters? Call the United Way office at 426-8833 to arrange for additional meters. Deadline is Wednesday, September 12.

On behalf of the United Way, thank you for your generous and continued support in Cranbrook and Kimberley! Remember every dollar raised here, stays here!
