PR rally October 24 in Cranbrook
Fair Vote BC – Cranbrook is holding a Proportional Representation (PR) rally on October 24 starting at 7 p.m. at the Ktunaxa Nation Gym, 220 Cranbrook St. N.
The aim of the rally is to bring people interested in learning about PR together with people committed to PR for an evening of conversation about how democracy is best served with a proportional representation system.
A successful referendum will produce more representative governments that are incentivized to work together rather than indulging in excessive partisanship. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
The keynote speaker is Glen Ewan Q.C. of Golden. Ewan has practiced law for decades; he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1999, and retired from the practise of law in 2017.
He has contributed submissions to all past Electoral Boundaries Commissions since 1978 and was a speaker on the Columbia Basin tour for the STV referendum. He is the current Chair of the Golden & District Community Foundation. His dedication to community shows in his frequent pro bono lectures on law for lay people in Golden and Invermere through the College of the Rockies.
B.C. is holding a referendum on proportional representation: ballots are now in the mail, and voters have until November 30 to return them.
