The Magic of Wildlife Photography
By Rocky Mountain Naturalists
As part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations, the Rocky Mountain Naturalists will host The Magic of Wildlife Photography, presented by Martin Ross at the College of the Rockies lecture theatre on Wednesday, November 18 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The presentation covers everything magical about wildlife photography, from the remarkable animals themselves to the astonishing capabilities of modern photographic technology. Whether you’re an experienced photographer, a nature enthusiast, or simply curious about wildlife, the evening offers something for everyone.
Martin Ross is a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Naturalists and is a national award-winning wildlife photographer who regularly delivers online nature photography presentations to camera clubs across Canada. Locally, he is a photographer with the Cranbrook Bucks of the BC Hockey League.
His interest in nature photography was originally sparked by many seasons of work as a park naturalist with Parks Canada and BC Parks.
The Rocky Mountain Naturalists club was formed in 1986 and has enjoyed 40 years of connecting people with nature. In addition to conducting guided field trips and organizing their well-known Christmas Bird Count, the club’s membership of over 150 people contributes countless volunteer hours to conservation projects, citizen science and public education throughout the southeast Kootenay region.
They maintain and monitor hundreds of bluebird nest boxes and play an important role in the stewardship of Elizabeth Lake in Cranbrook, including efforts to protect the Western Painted Turtle.
Also, the club encourages people to learn more about the natural world by arranging guest speakers and community events and by circulating its newsletter, The Kestrel.
