Sam Steele Days cancelled

The COVID-19 pandemic, in day 97, has now forced the cancellation of the largest community festival in the Kootenays.

Sam Steele Days Society has announced it is cancelling Sam Steele Days 2020.

“As everyone is aware, in order to host any event, we need to reach Phase 4 during this pandemic. At this time that does not look hopeful for the remainder of the year. With the cap of 50 or less people in one gathering allowed, that just is not feasible for our festival. We are saddened to have this annual festival that has been hosted for 55+ years not happen, but want to help in keeping everyone in the community, as well as outside the community safe,” stated Pamela Berry, Sam Steele Days coordinator.

If you have registered or have paid for any event that was going to be hosted during Sam Steele, organizers will be touching base with you via email.

“Also, if you are a collector of the Sam Steele button, we did order ours for the year and will have them available at the chamber of commerce. Please stop by to get yours while they are still available,” Berry said.

“We hope everyone has a safe summer and we look forward to seeing you in 2021 for Sam Steele Days on June 17-20.”
