See the good
Mommy’s Weird
By Kyla Cornish
I am all for free speech, but what I have been reading on Facebook lately is hate.
Hate of Muslims.
Hate of people that are not as fortunate as we are.
Hate of our new government.
I put this on my personal Facebook page. And in typical me fashion, I tried to hide it in some sort of humour.
Which is a bit cowardly on my part.
Maybe I was wrong to post the status. Maybe drawing a line in the sand was silly. Maybe I should have just quietly ignored what I saw. Maybe the world doesn’t need grand statements from me.
Who am I?
I’m a parent.
I am raising children. I want to raise children who are kind and accept others.
I know that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinions. I know that many of those opinions differ from mine. I understand what makes the world go round.
But, I won’t put up with hate.
It is not okay.
If you think you are being racist or prejudice or mean, then you probably are.
And I am not getting deeper than this today.
I just beg of you to try to see the good.
My daughter just stood on the towel rack and it broke from the wall. I’m trying to see the good. Maybe a reno is in our future.
See? It is that easy.
