Swim lessons called off at WFP Aquatic Centre
The City of Cranbrook has been implementing various actions due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19. As a result, the swim lessons scheduled to begin March 16 at the Western Financial Place (WFP) Aquatic Centre, have been cancelled.
According to the CDC website “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs,” the city noted in a public notice.
“However, there is the potential for airborne transmission. It would be very difficult to maintain the recommended distance of one to two metres between users and staff while trying to deliver safe swim lessons. We appreciate your understanding as we take this precaution to ensure the wellbeing of our staff and patrons.”
This action is consistent with many aquatic centres in the area, the city added.
At this time the rest of the Aquatic Centre will remain open, which includes public swim and aquafit classes. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to changes in service as they arise.
Patrons will have the option of a full refund on the lessons, or a full credit on their account to be applied to lessons when they resume.
To help ensure public safety, the city asks please do the following:
- Stay home if you or a member of your family is sick.
- Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and warm water, use alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Cough and sneeze into your elbow, not your hands, and if using a tissue, throw it away immediately.
- Keep your distance (one to two metres) from others wherever possible, specifically those who are coughing or sneezing.
Additional cleaning protocols have been implemented throughout Western Financial Place and other city facilities to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
The city also recently announced the closure of the hot tub and sauna facilities at WFP Aquatic Centre.
