Bruce Murdoch today announced that he will seek a seat on City of Cranbrook council in the 2026 municipal election, running on a platform of smart spending, better roads and infrastructure, and more diverse, affordable housing options for local residents.

Murdoch, a longtime Cranbrook resident, says his campaign will focus on “making every tax dollar work harder” by identifying clearer value for money on major projects, greater transparency in city budgeting, and stronger partnerships with provincial and community organizations to improve services without overburdening taxpayers.

“Cranbrook is a great place to live, but we all know our roads, utilities, and housing are under pressure,” Murdoch said.

“I’m running for council because I believe we can protect what works, fix what doesn’t, and build for the future—with honest conversations about taxes, clear priorities, and more transparency around how decisions are made.”

Murdoch’s campaign theme, “Cranbrook’s Future, Built Together,” reflects his commitment to collaborative decision-making and practical solutions.

He is pledging to support the dedicated road tax while pushing for a clear, publicly accessible long-term paving and infrastructure plan, and to back housing policies that encourage a mix of market, non-market, and supportive housing across the city.

“If I’m elected, residents will know where I stand and why on any issue,” Murdoch added. “I’ll advocate for plain language budgets, engage in regular townhall listening events on tax and spending decisions, and simple public reporting on the progress we make on roads, housing, and core services. People deserve to see how their money is being used—and to have a real say in the city’s direction.”

Murdoch also emphasized the importance of listening to neighbourhood concerns on issues such as safety, homelessness, and development, and working with local non-profits, businesses, and provincial partners to find practical, community-based solutions.

“I’m asking Cranbrook residents to join me in shaping a future where our streets are safer, our infrastructure is stronger, and more people can afford to call Cranbrook home,” he said.

“Together, we can make sure this city works for everyone.”
