Air quality alert for Cranbrook and Kimberley
Environment Canada this morning issued another air quality alert for the Cranbrook and Kimberley areas.
Elevated pollution levels are expected or occurring. The Ministry of Environment and Parks in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority has issued Air Quality Warnings for Cranbrook/Kimberley, Golden, and Grand Forks due to elevated fine particulate matter.
Exposure to fine particulate matter is particularly a concern for infants, older adults, individuals with chronic conditions (such as asthma, COPD, heart disease, and diabetes) or respiratory infections, and those who are pregnant, Environment Canada said.
Postpone or reduce strenuous outdoor activities until the warning has ended. Spend time indoors in a space with filtered air. Monitor your symptoms and seek prompt medical attention if needed.
Open burning restrictions are now in effect within the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area. Open burning restrictions are now in effect within Golden and Invermere Timber Supply Areas.
No new fires may be initiated, and no additional material may be added to existing fires.
For more information on burning restrictions, refer to the Mandatory Emission Reduction Actions section below. Current conditions are expected to persist until weather conditions change and/or local emissions are reduced.
The next update will be on November 6, and posted to the province’s Air Quality Warnings webpage.
Visit the provincial air quality data webpage for real-time observations. Visit airhealth.ca for information on how to reduce your health risk and your personal contribution to pollution levels, as well as for current and forecast AQHI values.
