Things to do this Family Day

Shake off those winter blues, get out, and enjoy our B.C. winter with your family this weekend.

Here is a listing of a number of activities for you and your family to partake in:

  • Fort Steele Heritage Town – Admission by Donation from Feb. 9 – 19 (free skating and bonfires, City Bakery will be open and movies at the Wildhorse Theatre.) Check out their Facebook page for more details.
  • The Purple Pirate – at Key City Theatre – 11 a.m./2 p.m. – Feb 12 – $10/ticket.
  • Kootenay ICE Family Day Game – 2 p.m. – Feb. 12.
  • Kimberley Alpine Resort – 50% off full day lift tickets for B.C. residents, also free events at the resort (face painting, bonfires etc.) check out their website.

The weather looks great for the Family Day long weekend so here are some other free or cheap options for outdoor fun!

  • South Star’s Easy Street

    BC Family Day Swim – Western Financial Place – 1-4 p.m. Feb 12 – FREE.

  • Outdoor skating at Baker Park & Pop Price – there are lights for an evening skate.
  • Sledding at Idlewild or St. Mary’s.
  • Cross country Skiing/hiking/snowshoeing at South Star Trails/Elizabeth Lake/NorthStar Rails-to-Trails.
  • Building a snowman or a snow fort in your backyard.
  • Free Indoor Public Skate – Kinsman Arena – 2-4 p.m. on Sunday (rentals by donation are available)

After a long, busy day of outdoor fun, take your fun indoors with a family game or movie night. Rent a movie from the Cranbrook Public Library. Pop some popcorn and share some hot chocolate.
