Water service repair to affect traffic Friday

A water service repair to the Mount Baker Hotel will reduce traffic on 11th Avenue South to single lane, alternating for most of the day Friday (May 18).

B.E. Civil Projects will begin work on 11th Avenue South between Baker Street and 1st Street South at 7 a.m., with the project expected to be completed by late afternoon. Drivers are asked to avoid the area where possible.

Please respect and obey all traffic signs and the direction of flaggers on site during the construction work. It is important for drivers to be aware of their presence. Please slow down and give these personnel the space they need to be safe.

With this project, the traffic lights at the intersection of 11th Avenue South and Baker Street will be changed temporarily to flashing red lights. This means drivers must treat the intersection like a normal four-way stop. It is important to understand the rules of a four-way stop.

When there are stop signs at all corners of an intersection:

  • The first vehicle to arrive at the intersection and come to a complete stop should go first.
  • If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the one on the right should go first.
  • If two vehicles are facing each other and have arrived at the intersection at about the same time, the one making a left turn should yield to the one going straight through.

The city appreciates the patience and understanding of the public while this project is completed.
