Camp Kootenay comedy returning to region

Sarah Stupar

The people have spoken and Camp Kootenay has answered – The Comedy Tour is back!

A new carload of happy campers are ready to fire up the jokes at three venues in the East Kootenay August 11 to 13.

Four comedians, including Cranbrook’s Sarah Stupar, will perform August 11 at Whisky Jack’s Pub and Smokehouse in Kimberley, August 12 at the Jaffray Pub and Sunrise Grill and August 13 at Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 36 in Fernie.

Returning Camp Counsellor Sarah Stupar will bring the bug spray and keep everyone on the trail! This Cranbrook girl (don’t hold it against her) has been featured at JFL Northwest, Yuk Yuks, and The Kootenay Comedy Festival. She leans into her redneck roots, but her comedy resonates with small town folks and city slickers alike. She performs weekly at the Comedy Cave in Calgary, the city where she rounded up this rag tag group of Camper Comedians and invited them to come tell jokes in the Kootenays.

Camper Zac Wiggins is a fast-rising stand-up originally from Okotoks, Alta., but he’s no stranger to Jaffray. Zac is noted for the perpetual startled look in his eyes, while he jokes about past traumas and embarrassing personal stories. His awkward on-stage demeanour never fails to leave the audience laughing, and maybe slightly confused. When Zac’s not on stage you can catch him at Lake Koocanusa making questionable life choices.

Camper Carson Elliott is a stand-up who likes his whisky on the rocks, just like his life. He grew up spinning yarn for his fellow degenerate friends at many a train station around Calgary, and now he does the same except at bars. He’s new to the scene but ready to play, and appears regularly at shows across Calgary (when he’s not driving a Zamboni).

Camper Erin Wood is a stand-up comic who relocated to the prairies from Vancouver Island. She is dark, silly, and obsessed with pop culture. Whether she’s talking about funerals or nineties movies, she’s sharp, playful and ready to tell a story. She’s appeared at Victoria Fringe Festival, and she currently produces Ratboy Comedy and Carnival Comedy in Calgary, Alberta.

Come on out and hear some campfire stories! Early bird prices available until Aug 1.
