COP26 is coming up and we have a petition

Letter to the Editor

Livelihood and life support systems are being undermined by climate change. Decisive, cooperative leadership is urgently needed to avoid the most disastrous effects.  Investing in fossil fuel expansion and continuing to prop up fossil fuels with public subsidies is not helping. Our next best chance for a safe, livable and resilient future is November’s Global Climate Summit (COP26) hosted in Scotland.

Concrete actions need to be stepped up. Leaders need to close the gap between what they say and what they do and Canada needs to do its part.

To send a message to Canada’s House of Commons, consider signing the parliamentary petition asking our leaders to work together to:

– plan for transition to a low carbon economy that leaves no-one behind;
– stop subsidizing fossil fuel production; and
– end the ongoing expansion of fossil fuel production.

This petition is available for signing at Huckleberry Books in Cranbrook, and at Grow in Kimberley, until Oct. 21.

Alternatively, please email [email protected] to receive a copy to print and sign. The petition will be presented in Canada’s House of Commons ASAP after Oct 21.
