Emergency responders extricate trapped driver near Wardner

Cranbrook Highway Rescue was paged out along with RDEK Fire Services – South Country, BCEHS and RCMP for a single vehicle incident down an embankment off Highway 3/93 near Wardner yesterday morning (Nov. 4).

South Country Fire was first on scene and members found one person trapped in a vehicle about 80 feet down the embankment.

They were able to carry the Jaws of Life down to the vehicle and started the extrication. Cranbrook Highway Rescue arrived shortly after and started setting up a rope rescue system. The injured person was extricated and packaged, then using the rope rescue system was raised to the highway where BCEHS transported them to East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

“It was an amazing, coordinated, multi-agency response by all,” Cranbrook Highway Rescue noted on social media.
