The Forest Practices Board (FPB) has released its 2020-21 annual report of the board’s work during the year.

“This year brought us some significant operational challenges due to the pandemic,” said Kevin Kriese, board chair, Forest Practices Board.

“While this created some limitations for field work, it also gave us the time to work on improvements to our internal policies and processes, particularly for complaint investigations and for Indigenous engagement. A major focus for the board is increasing our understanding of climate change and how we can mitigate its impacts and adapt our forest practices to a changing climate.”

The annual report details accomplishments in 2020-21, including:

* five audits of forestry and range operations;

* three reports about important forestry issues (e.g., fish habitat conservation, reforestation and forest-road bridges and major crossings);

* nine new investigations of public complaints;

* nine new recommendations for improvement to forest policy and practices;

* 16 reports published; and

* two webinars about key reports.

The Forest Practices Board is B.C.’s independent watchdog for sound forest and range practices, reporting its findings and recommendations directly to the public and government.
