Liberals note surge in Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies

Although the Liberal Party of Canada did not win the seat locally, the April 28 election results mark a significant victory for Liberal momentum across the Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies, said local party members last night.

Under Reggie Goldsbury’s leadership, Liberal support in the riding surged by over 300% — a clear testament to the strength, dedication, and energy behind the Canada Strong movement, a party media release noted.

Throughout the campaign, Goldsbury and his Liberal team traveled over 7,000 kilometres, shook thousands of hands, answered hundreds of emails, and participated in more than a dozen forums, town halls, and community events. The campaign’s grassroots efforts helped send a powerful message: Canada Strong means Kootenay Strong.

“We are incredibly proud of what we achieved together,” said Goldsbury. “The thousands of supporters, volunteers and community members who showed up made history tonight. You proved that rural voices matter — and that the momentum for a stronger, more united Canada is growing.”

While congratulating Conservative Party candidate Rob Morrison on his re-election, Goldsbury expressed hope that Morrison will rise to the challenge of representing all constituents across the riding.

He also extended his respect to the other candidates who offered themselves for public service, noting that democracy is strengthened when a diversity of voices step forward.

The campaign expressed disappointment in the progressive vote split, which ultimately contributed to the Conservative victory. However, Goldsbury emphasized that the results only strengthen the resolve of Liberals in the region: “We will continue building. We will continue rising. Our movement is strong, and our future is bright.”

With Mark Carney’s leadership at the national level, Liberals are confident that Canada is in the best hands possible to face the challenges ahead.

“Thank you, Kootenays,” Goldsbury said. “This is just the beginning. Onward. Canada Strong.”

For now, Goldsbury will be returning to work with the social investment team at the Ktunaxa Nation Council.
