Mainroad issues incoming snowfall alert
Mainroad East Kootenay Contractingâs meteorological service is forecasting snowfall for most areas in the East Kootenay, starting this afternoon and continuing through Sunday night.
âOur forecast indicates roughly consistent weather across most areas the East Kootenay. We are expecting snow showers or rain/snow mix for most of the day Saturday, with temperatures cooling between 6-11 this evening and precipitation turning to moderately heavy snow,â Mainroad stated in a weather alert.
The moderate snowfall is expected to continue throughout Sunday with a total of 12-15cm.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement regarding the same snowfall for the East Kootenay and nearby areas.
Mainroad crews will continue plowing snow from area highways until the event passes and roadways are cleared and back to normal.
âYou may have observed our equipment proactively applying anti-icing brine to highways and school bus routes, yesterday and today. This will prevent compact/ice conditions. Please give our road crews a safe distance to work,â the highways contractor asks.
Mainroadâs 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all your observations and concerns to our crews when contacted.
As always, a reminder to drive to the conditions and check www.drivebc.ca for updates.
