New school boards of trustees established

Rocky Mountain (SD6) and Southeast Kootenay (SD5) school districts have new school boards of trustees following the Oct. 15 election.

Irene Bischler (2,570 votes) received the most votes and will be SD5 Trustee Electoral Area 5 – City of Cranbrook & RDEK Area C, followed by five incumbent trustees.

Also elected: Chris Johns of Electoral Area 5 – City of Cranbrook & RDEK Area C (2,459 votes), Doug McPhee of Electoral Area 5 – City of Cranbrook & RDEK Area C (2,387), Trina Ayling of Electoral Area 5 – City of Cranbrook & RDEK Area C (2,337), Wendy Turner of Area 5 – City of Cranbrook & RDEK Area C (2,231) and Bev Bellina of Electoral Area 2 -District of Sparwood and portion of RDEK Area A (310).

Nicole Heckendorf (Electoral Area 1 – City of Fernie & portion of RDEK Area A), Sarah Madsen (Electoral Area 3 -District of Elkford & portion of RDEK Area A) and Alysha Clarke (Electoral Area 4 -RDEK Electoral Area B) were acclaimed.

Five candidates were acclaimed in SD6: Jane Fearing (Electoral Area 1 (Golden and Area A of the CSRD), Scott King (Electoral Area 1 (Golden and Area A of the CSRD), Rhonda Smith/Hamilton (Electoral Area 1 Golden and Area A of the CSRD), Amber Byklum (Electoral Area 4 – Canal Flats and Area F of the RDEK), Jane Thurgood Sagal (Electoral Area 5 – Radium Hot Springs and Area G of the RDEK).

Elected are: former City of Kimberley councillor Darryl Oakley for Electoral Area 2 – Kimberley and Area E of the RDEK – (1,361 votes); and incumbents, former Kimberley mayor Ron McRae for Electoral Area 2 – Kimberley and Area E of the RDEK (1,270); Betty Lou Barrett for Electoral Area 2 – Kimberley and Area E of the RDEK (879); and Ryan Stimming for Electoral Area 3 -District of Invermere (63 votes).
