Smoke lingering in region’s south
The southwestern end of the East Kootenay is once again blanketed with smoke, prompting Environment Canada to once again issue an air quality alert.
The alert covers Cranbrook, Kimberley and South Country areas.
“Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility. In southern areas, smoke is forecasted to increase as winds from the south transport smoke across the border. These winds are forecasted to shift smoke eastward through the day,” Environment Canada stated.
For the second day in a row there is a heat warning for the Creston and Kootenay Lake area, as well as the Golden area.
“A ridge of high pressure will bring elevated temperatures to the region. Daytime highs are expected to be in the low to mid 30s with overnight lows in the mid to high teens. A gradual cooling trend is expected later in the week,” Environment Canada said.
