Snowfall warning for Kootenay Pass

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning in effect for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Snowfall with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.

A Pacific frontal system dropped snow on Kootenay Pass this morning. The snow is expected to continue through today with total accumulations up to 15 cm near the pass before the snow changes to rain this evening.

There is no snowfall warning for Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park but there is a 70% chance of rain showers or flurries today, with temperatures dropping to about 1 C this evening, with a 70% chance of wet flurries or rain showers.

There is a 40% chance of showers along Highway 3 at Crowsnest Pass/Sparwood today, with a 40% chance of showers this evening.

There is a 30% chance of showers in the south country and Columbia Valley today and this evening.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
