Time to nominate B.C. champions of multiculturalism

The provincial government would like to recognize people who are enhancing multiculturalism and actively standing up to racism and hate.

Until Feb. 21, British Columbians can put forward nominations for the Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards for individuals, organizations, businesses and youth whose outstanding work has strengthened inclusion and cultural diversity in their communities.

All nominees are invited to the award ceremony where they will receive a certificate of recognition. Award recipients will receive a trophy. The youth award recipient will also receive $5,000 to donate to a not-for-profit organization of their choice to further promote multiculturalism and anti-racism.

British Columbia’s Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards ceremony will take place in Metro Vancouver on March 21, which coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Established in 2008, the provincial government, with advice and support from the Multicultural Advisory Council, organizes the B.C. Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards to honour and celebrate British Columbians for excellence in promoting multiculturalism and addressing racism.

Twenty-six individuals, organizations and businesses have received awards to date.
