Two small fires burning in region

With the hottest temperatures of the calendar year upon us, the risk of wildfire grows incrementally.

Thankfully, the BC Wildfire Service is dealing with only two small fires at this time – both new.

There is a .2 hectare person-caused fire in Brule Creek, about half way between Elkford and Sparwood, that started yesterday.

And another fire, .01 ha in size, was reported overnight in Burnett Creek, about 4.5 km northwest of Canadian Rockies International Airport.

A person-caused wildfire that was burning along the Kootenay-Bypass Forest Service Road, about seven kilometres east of Canal Flats yesterday, is no longer showing on BC Wildfire’s Active Wildfires website.

Report a wildfire: 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell.
