W. Brett Wilson and Brett Kissel team up for CCS
Entrepreneur and philanthropist W. Brett Wilson and Juno and Canadian Country Music Association Award winning country singer Brett Kissel are joining creative forces to encourage the public to support the hundreds of thousands of Canadians battling cancer each year.
The partnership came about after Wilson heard âI Didnât Fall in Love With Your Hairââa song on Kisselâs newest album, which he debuted at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards to a standing ovation. The stunningly emotional song, which tells the story of enduring love through a battle with cancer, struck a deep chord with Wilson.
Until October 28, proceeds from downloads of âI Didnât Fall in Love With Your Hairâ will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. During this time, Wilson, a part-time Columbia Valley resident, will match the money raised through song sales up to $25,000.
âIâve now battled cancer twice and the reasons Iâve survived were the abundance of care from the people around me, and surrounding myself with music and movies that inspired me to cheer, to laugh and to cry,â said Wilson. âThis partnership with Brett and the Canadian Cancer Society gives Canadians a chance to support their friends, family, and others in the larger community who are battling cancer on any given day by offering them the truly healing gift of music. The message is simpleâwhether your hair is here or goneâyouâre loved. Sometimes thatâs the best medicine of all.â
Kissel also has a personal relationship with cancer. His mother Brenda has had cancer several times, enduring more than 40 surgeries. âItâs a special song for my mom and it gives a lot of hope to people across Canada,â said Kissel. âItâll make you think about those who you love, and what might happen if you found yourself in that situation. Whether youâre young or old, itâs a song that has such a strong and positive message and I am very proud to be the guy to bring that message to the public.â

From coast-to-coast, the Canadian Cancer Society is making a real difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families through world-class research and support programs that help people when they are feeling scared and alone, according to Annual Giving Coordinator Jenn Smith.
âItâs about life, not cancer, and the Society is dedicated to pushing this message forward,â she added.
âResidents near and far are encouraged to call the Society (1-888-939-3333) to connect with an expert who can help answer questions on 200+ types of cancer,â she said. âAnd at the local Cranbrook office, we offer further support at the ground level through many ways, including free wigs and breast prosthesis for the community.â
The Society is open to independent ideas that raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support programming. Residents with a drive to start up an independent fundraiser for the society are encouraged to contact the Cranbrook office, located at 105 9th Ave. South or call 250-426-8916.
