Wildfire activities amp up in region

The BC Wildfire Service today reports two new wildfires in the East Kootenay.

There is a lightning-caused fire at Connell Ridge, located about 16 km east of Moyie. The fire is an estimated 15 hectares in size.

The Connell Ridge fire is only about eight km northwest of a .5 ha fire at Tepee Creek, discovered July 24. That fire is considered under control.

There is another lightning-caused fire at Stair Lakes in St. Mary’s Alpine Provincial Park, about 32 km northwest of Kimberley. The fire is an estimated 40 ha and is listed as out-of-control.

A lightning-caused fire reported July 30 at Mount Docking, about 28 km northwest of Radium Hot Springs, is out-of-control at three ha.

BC Wildfire Service reports 33 new fires in the province in the past two days and 123 in the past week.
