Wildfire erupts east of Wasa
By Nowell Berg
At approximately 3 p.m., a large plume of smoke the size of a football field blew up over the mountain ridge east of Mt. Stephens.
BC Wildfire Service has been alerted and are investigating.
Cause is yet unknown, but probably lighting.
The fire was likely smoldering for several days before igniting into a towering column of smoke visible across the Rocky Mountain trench.
The area east of Mt. Stephens is wild backcountry with no people or buildings near by.
Updates will be reported as they become available.
