Hikers bluff charged by grizzly near Elkford

WildSafeBC Elk Valley reports hikers were bluff charged by a grizzly bear and cubs on Josephine Falls Trail in Elkford earlier today (August 25).

The BC Conservation Officer Service is asking that people avoid the area until further notice. The safest wildlife encounter is one prevented.

The District of Elkford also reports the presence of the grizzlies in the Josephine Falls (pictured) and Lily Lake trail areas, as well as a black bear.

Signage is present. All trail users should exercise caution by making noise, carrying bear spray and remaining alert.
