The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the July 11 City of Fernie council meeting.
1. AGREEMENTS, LICENCES PERMITS & POLICIES
1.1 Development Variance Permit No. 367 – Montane Developments Ltd – Stages 1, 2, & 3 Subdivisions Council authorized issuance of the permit to vary the street lighting standards in the above noted stages of the subdivision. Report to Council
1.2 Development Variance Permit No. 388 for 561 9th Avenue Council authorized issuance of the permit to vary the minimum front yard setback in order to facilitate the construction of a carport. 2016-07-07 Report to Council | Letter from Fern Marriott
1.3 Development Variance Permit No. 389 for 109 Ridgemont Crescent Council authorized issuance of the permit to vary the minimum front yard setback and maximum eave projection along a portion of the west property line to facilitate the construction of a sunroom with sundeck. 2016-07-07 Report to Council
1.4 Development Variance Permit No. 391 for 32 & 34 Shadow Road Council authorized issuance of the permit to vary the screening requirements for outdoor storage in the CS1 -Service Commercial Zone. Report to Council
1.5 Fernie Pets Society – Land Use Permit Council endorsed the Land Use Permit agreement between the City of Fernie and the Fernie Pets Society which will allow the society to construct and maintain an off leash dog park in the area located between the Skateboard Park and 13th Street at the base of Ridgemont Hill. 1.6 2017 – 2019 Griz Days Partnering Agreement Council authorized the execution of the partnering agreement between the Fernie Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fernie for the provision of municipal services, being the hosting of the 2017, 2018 & 2019 Griz Days Festival providing payment to the Chamber of Commerce the sum of $10,000 for the services described in the Agreement. 2. BYLAWS
2.1 Bylaw No. 2293 Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 180, 2016 was adopted. This will rezone a 686 square metre portion of the property at 300 Bossio Road from RR-Rural Residential to R1- Single Family Residential to enable the construction of a single family dwelling on the property. 3. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
3.1 West Fernie Boundary Extension Update Council approved the recommendation put forth by the Chief Administrative Officer in the attached staff report in order to clarify the process by which the West Fernie Phase 1 boundary extension project move forward. 3.2 Discretionary Grant – Senior Citizen Drop In Centre – Cribbage Team Council authorized an additional $150 be added to the previous $100 dollar grant allocation for a total of $250 for the Cribbage Team to assist with their travel expenses to the tournament in Coquitlam, BC in the fall of 2016. 3.3 Fernie Friends of Refugees – Council authorized 10 family passes be allocated to the Fernie Friends of Refugees for use at the Fernie Aquatic Centre. Fernie Friends of Refugees Letter
3.4 Grant Funding Opportunities – Council authorized staff to apply for the necessary grant funding to assist in the replacement of streetlights throughout the community as well as at the Fernie Aquatic Centre.
4. UPCOMING MEETINGS AND OTHER NEWS
4.1 Next scheduled meetings of council are: Monday, July 25, Committee of the Whole at 10 a.m. and the regular meeting of council at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
