Fernie honouring Queen Elizabeth Monday morning

On Monday, September 19 at 11 a.m., the church bell in Fernieā€™s landmark Holy Family Church will ring 96 times as a mark of respect for the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and to pay Fernieā€™s respect of her remarkable life, her years of dedicated and public service and her generosity and kindness to humanity.

The 112-year-old Fernie church bell has been rung and tolled to mark special anniversaryā€™s such as the 100th anniversary marking the end of the Great War, the passing of the 2010 Olympic Torch through Fernie, to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020 and to celebrate the many lives of Fernie residents over the last 100 years.

The public is welcome to gather on the grounds of the Fernie Courthouse, the City of Fernie grounds or listen at their homes to honour Queen Elizabeth and to pay their respects.

A posterĀ advertising a Mass and ringing of the bells to show respect for Queen Elizabeth II has been given to the Mayor and council (all of whom are away on a conference), to the RCMP in Fernie, and to Cherished Memories and to Reverend Andrea Brennan.
