Fernie Water Quality Advisory rescinded

UPDATE: Power was restored and the turbid water has flushed through the system. The City of Fernie has verified with testing that its treated water quality meets the provincial safe drinking water guidelines. It has therefore rescinded the water quality advisory.

Responding to a ‘Fair’ rating on the Turbidity Index, the City of Fernie has issued a Water Quality Advisory.

While the associated health risks are minimal, the City of Fernie and Interior Health recommend that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making juice or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your patience during this time.
