Jaffray welcomes back acting vice-principal

School District No. 5 (SD5) Board of Trustees will continue to appoint Carlene Lochrie as acting vice-principal of Jaffray Elementary Secondary School (JESS) this September.

Born and raised in Cranbrook, Lochrie has taught in SD5 for the past eight years, most recently as temporary vice-principal and grade 4/5 teacher at JESS. Prior to Jaffray, Lochrie taught French Immersion at TM Roberts Elementary School (TMRES) in Cranbrook.
According to SD5 Board Chair Frank Lento, in addition to her great passion for teaching, Lochrie recognizes the unique opportunities and challenges inherent to JESS. “Carlene understands that not only is JESS Jaffray’s only school, it is the heart of the community.”
“I really believe that what I do as an educator is help students discover a joy and excitement for learning, enabling them to accomplish more than they thought possible. In a rural school like Jaffray’s, that excitement is shared throughout the community.”
In addition to teaching, Lochrie is a horse enthusiast and spends most of her spare time riding and working with horses. She has also been a volunteer with the Cranbrook Pro Rodeo Association since 2006.
