Serious injuries in Olsen Overpass crash

A man from Alberta suffered serious injuries in a Nov. 5 afternoon crash between a motorcycle and car on the Highway 3 Olsen Overpass between Hosmer and Sparwood.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Satutday, Elk Valley RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle accident.

The driver of the motorcycle, a male in his early 50s from Alberta, was on his 2006 Kawasaki street bike going eastbound towards Alberta, when it drifted across the centre line and collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by a male in his early 60s from Saskatchewan. There was a female passenger as well in the Toyota Corolla who is also in her early 60s, Elk Valley RCMP reported.

The driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries. However, he has since been reported to be in stable condition at hospital. The driver and passenger of the Toyota Corolla both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at the Elk Valley Hospital.

Highway 3 was closed for several hours at the Olsen Overpass for police investigation and to render it safe for emergency crew to clear the highway. The investigation is ongoing. Speed and inexperience are believed to be a factor, said Sgt. Will Thien, Acting Detachment Commander of Elk Valley Regional RCMP.
