Annual Food Drive is a go but with changes

Sparwood’s annual Food Drive is still going ahead this year on Sunday, Dec. 6! But as with many things, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we’ve had to make a few changes.

In order to protect the health and safety of our emergency responders, and our community, we won’t be able to drive around town and come to everyone’s doors this time.

So instead, we’re asking you to come to us!

We will have drop-off locations set up at the Greenwood Mall, Fire Station #1 (479 Pine Ave) and Fire Station #2 (1391 Ponderosa Dr). We will have tables set up outside where you can drive up and drop off your donation, and then after you’re safely away our personnel will collect the donation to be taken to the Sparwood Food Bank. This will allow all of us to maintain physical distancing at all times, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The drop-off locations will be open from 5 until 8 p.m., and to avoid causing traffic problems people are asked to not all come out right away but instead to pick a random time in the evening. If there’s a long line-up of vehicles at one location people are encouraged to try one of the others, or take advantage of the opportunity for a drive to check out some of the excellent decorations around town and come back a bit later.
Donations of non-perishable food items should be brought in bags or boxes, and cash donations should be placed in an envelope with the donor’s name and mailing address if they would like a charitable receipt sent to them.

If you absolutely can’t make it to one of our drop-off locations, we will have a couple small crews who can pick your donation up from outside on your front doorstep.

Just send an email to [email protected] letting us know your address and what time your donation will be out. Please only do this if you don’t have a way to get to us, as we’ll only be able to do a limited number of pickups.

As always, thank you in advance for all your support and generosity! We’re hoping that with your help we can still have a very safe and successful food drive in spite of this situation we all find ourselves in.
