Gathering aim is to determine future of Centennial Square

The District of Sparwood is welcoming residents to join in discussions to determine the future of Centennial Square (pictured above and below).

Mayor David Wilks

On August 6, from 3 to 8 p.m., residents are invited to drop into the Square to share their thoughts on the future of this space as well as enjoy a free barbecue taking place from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of the event.

The district is in the beginning stages of investigating options for re-designing the space to ensure it can be utilized in a way that is best for the community. Input received from residents during the event will be summarized and provided to landscape architects who will then use the information to create conceptual options that will be released later this summer.

ā€œWe are really excited for this initiative,ā€ said Mayor David Wilks. ā€œCentennial Square is the traditional commercial core of Sparwood, but council recognizes that this space could be doing more to provide opportunities for our community to gather, host events, and support our businesses and that is why we are pursuing grant opportunities to redesign this space. It is very important to us to have the publicā€™s help to determine what that could look like. The event on August 6th will be a chance to talk with Council and staff, and to leave your comments on comment boards around Centennial Square.ā€

In addition to this event, there will be opportunities to provide comments on social media. The district is encouraging anyone interested to participate and provide your thoughts on this important public space.
