Special weather statement issued for Elk Valley

Environment Canada this morning issued a special weather statement in effect for the Elk Valley, with snow changing to rain on Monday.

“A series of Pacific systems will bring snow across the B.C. interior. Snow will intensify in the Kootenay regions tonight. Snowfall accumulations may reach 15 cm before changing to rain on Monday. There will be some uncertainty in the exact timing of the changeover to rain. The most likely timeframe is between noon and late afternoon Monday,” Environment Canada stated.

Along with the Elk Valley, the special weather statement also covers the West Kootenay, Arrow Lakes – Slocan Lake and Kootenay Lake.

The other areas of the East Kootenay are not included in the weather statement but there is a 60% chance of rain and flurries in all parts of the region leading up to March 3.

Melting snow could result in slippery and slushy conditions on the roads. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
