Emergency officials with the City of Kimberley kept a close eye on rising flood waters in the community over the weekend, and although the water did come up significantly on Saturday, the cooler temperatures and less-than-forecast rainfall have helped settle things down somewhat today (April 30).

“Our Operations crews monitored water levels all weekend and will continue to do so,” said Kimberley Fire Chief Rick Prasad. “Peak levels were reached last night about 11:00 pm and have dropped this morning, which gives us a bit of a break before the warm weather returns.”

In addition to the ongoing monitoring, crews have been checking on culverts and cleaning screens in an effort to keep the water flowing as much as possible; however, there may still be localized flooding in low lying areas.

“We still have significant snow in the mid-elevation and the forecast is calling for a warming trend over the next few days, so we are encouraging residents to remain prepared and aware as the spring freshet continues,” added Prasad.

The self-fill sandbag station remains in place at Centennial Hall for anyone wanting to do sandbagging on their properties.
